2.6.2 Mass Exchange

The mass transfer of evaporating solvent from the fibers in dry spinning applications is computed in ANSYS FLUENT by balancing the evaporated mass of solvent in every fiber cell volume. It is computed as


 M_c = \sum_{fibers} \pi d_f l_{f,c} \dot{m}_{s}'' (2.6-2)

The mass exchange appears as a mass source in the continuity equation of the surrounding fluid as well as a source of chemical species of the solvent vapor defined by the user. It is included in every subsequent calculation of the continuous phase flow field and is reported as described in Section  3.9.2.
